The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics' (NCTM) Principles to Actions (2014) identifies eight high-leverage, research-informed instructional practices. When considered alongside the Eight Standards for Mathematical Practice in the Utah Core, we have a 360-degree view of an optimal mathematics classroom. The eight instructional practices in Principles to Actions provide a teacher-oriented view, while the Standards for Mathematical Practice focus on students' necessary knowledge, skills, and mindsets for college and career readiness.

10 Steps of Developing Outcome-Based Professional Development  [Download PDF]
 
The quality of your professional development (PD) is vital. Utah Professional Development Network (UPDN) staff identified a 10-step process for developing outcome-based PD. Collectively, these steps are referred to as “blueprinting” PD. The blueprinting PD process is also organized for use by school and district level PD providers. UPDN provides training and follow-up supports to help providers strengthen PD outcomes. This image illustrates the 10 steps of the blueprinting process.
